Welcome to the ECS National Center for Learning and Citizenship's (NCLC) State Policies for Citizenship Education Database.

The NCLC has developed this database of state policies to support citizenship education for K-12 students. From this database, you can generate profiles of the state policies for citizenship education in individual states, create comparisons of specific types of citizenship education state policies across several states and view reports on state policies for citizenship education.

This set of documents analyze citizenship education at the state, school district and school building levels.

Citizenship Education Policy Brief
This policy brief reviews current data and recent state action in support of citizenship education. It highlights eight states' standards which go beyond the teaching of knowledge and extend to skills and dispositions, analyzes common characteristics of state standards and concludes with questions for policymakers.
